Dear Actor... pet peeves, panic, and sanity checks

the manager flex.

a manager announcing,“i put my actors first” is like a pilot announcing “i fly the plane.”

congratulations, you’ve met the job description. if you need to scream it from the rooftops, odds are you’re trying to convince someone (probably yourself).

the actor flex.

actors do this too. “i’m loyal.”… to who? your barista? loyalty isn’t a personality trai…it’s a

behavior. if you have to declare it in your bio, it’s not showing in your work.

the training flex. and let’s not forget… “classically trained.”… trained in what, exactly? shakespeare? opera? or just one semester stomping around in soft pants pretending to be a tree? training matters, sure but if your big sell is a vague label, i’m already bored.

panic checks.

panic is the unofficial currency of this business. no call from your rep? panic. self-tape deadline? panic. didn’t hear back? panic. here’s the truth: panic has never booked anyone a job. preparation does. consistency does. today is not the day to spiral…unless you’re auditioning for a role that specifically requires spiraling.

sanity checks.

before you throw yourself into a meltdown, ask:

– am i craving constant reassurance, or real opportunities?

– is this actually urgent, or just my anxiety looking for a hobby?

– did someone promise to call me back, or am i expecting closure from an industry allergic to it?

ghosting clarified.

casting silence is not ghosting. it’s tuesday. real ghosting is when a rep says, “i’ll call you next

week,” and vanishes faster than your residual check..not every closed door is a ghost. sometimes it’s just a hallway you don’t need to walk down. the bottom line. stop flexing the bare minimum. stop mistaking silence for betrayal. stop pretending panic is productivity. the only receipts that matter are in the work. show that.. and let the rest rot.
